MY EDL FOR MY SHORT FILM EDIT: SHE

THIS IS WHAT IS KNOWN AS AND EDL (EDIT DECISION LIST).

This process is usally used in the post production process of video production/filmmaking. In this situation i used an edit decision list (EDL) as it is an more suitable way of sending video file details (footage) from final cut pro to excel to the editor in which that peson would then edit the footage and entail if its okay or if any thing is needed to be improved on. another great point about the edit decision list it allows others to be able to edit and look at your work exactly how you left it whcih is really helpful as if you did not know about the edit decision list (EDL) you would probalbly of exported it from your editior programme and then transfered it to another persons computer for further corrections in which would be hard as it will all be a straight film. not how it was setup from the begining so you would not be able to see all the cuts music files, sound effects, transitions you input as it will all be inbeded into the film as you expoted it to a 720p. so this is so much more hand for personel to edit work.

The process i had undergone to produce my EDL:

I created the Edit decision list by finishing a short film edit then i went on to click on file while i'm still in the final cut pro (editor) and then a drop then menu would apppear in which i clicked Export XML, which it tells you to save your work in a certain destination so you are able to access it later on in time. then you locate the exported XML file from the saved file destination, then retrieve it and drag it into excel dont double click it as it would open up final cut (in which is the wrong method) what you want to is to drag it into excel so that all the codes and codeded information will allow editor to know specific details about my short film edit. when the viewie recives the excel document fill with codes about my short film they would now have access to my work if they drag it into an editing software such as final cut pro (prefereably this editor as thats what i used to edit the short film).  Lastly,  this will then give them complete access to the work at hand and allows them to apply further improvements.

i found this process easy to do as it just required me to export my work and drag it to excel for others use.
