week14: Homework task 1,2&3

Task 1: The gathering of ideas for a horror (short story)

My short film will contain flashbacks and flash forwards on what is happening within the story of the film. It will contain non-linear because of the fact my short film doesn't go in chronological order ( start, middle and end. I will probably and most likely have my hook near the being as i want to grab attentiion of my specific audience and draw into want to watch/find out more.
A non- linear narrative will be used as it will add more creativeness and power to the story and flashbacks/rewinds, memory flash will suit this story line as it is based on life and death so it would be good to show different aspects/outcomes.
Lastly, this pitch would justify the use of non-linear as it will help audiences understand/grasp the story better.

Compared To

the results i have colllected show that thrillers have gained more views and likes than horror which was very suprising as i thought horror forced out more meaning. the thrillers black hole gathered 19,607,956 views and the likes were 110,969 to 2,644 dislikes. While on the other hand the two horrors i chose have quiet alot of views but not alot compared to the thriller as FEWIDO: horror bed follows recieved 2,638,050 views and the likes to dislikes was 16,228 to 610. mama had 2,369,026 and 7,175 likes to 2,644 dislikes. this infered that thrillers are more liked than horrors as you can make audiences think about what they are watching also they usally have mystry and suspence.

out of these 2 short horror films and 1 thriller the one that really caught me off gaurd in which, deemed worthy of  praise and brought out my scared side i would have to express was mama! as in portrayed all the conventions of a horror as i was hooked in when another girl entered the scene who was horrified of something as she was walking backwards shakingly and unaware of her surrounds (impying she was scared of whats to come) then she said "mama's home, let's go" in which the other girl in bed instanly awoke due to fear of 'mama'. I extreme loved how the film flowed on and how mama is really scary.

What is meant by Hook:

The hook is used to drawn in audiences gathering so much suspense and mystery and intererst grabbing their attention in order for them to keep watch or even reading. The hook can be applied in films and novels and they are preferably used in the begining to engage audiences to want more instead of building up to the hook.
An example is being reeld in by a fish hook - so catching your attention basically.

for my audience research i gathered that thrillers are more prefered than horrors in which you are able to tell from he ratings of he short films.

what is meant by plot twist:

This is an unexpected change in the direction and outcome of the filming bringing something out of the blue that the audiences were not expecting creating different emotions. it is used to add interest and keep viewer entertained and asking question making them crave more. the twist is usually displayed at the end of the film to foreshadow something or to show a revelation.

Production requirements:

Finance: there are many ways to go out to get money. A ways is through dipping into their own savings; this benefits them in the long term if they produce a massive film thats love which would allow a large profit margin. Another way is through investors investigating money in which they borrow you money but when you start making alot they get half there cut or what they paid you to start up. Idont think i wouldn't need to provide a graet sum of money because most of the materials that i will be using will be provided by my college to be honest. My only input in money would be to provide food for my actors and this will come out of my personal savings. The transport is already established because me and my actors all have free travel oyster cards (access to trains & buses) and we have cars too. or i can use a Kick starter- which is know to be the largest funding platforms for creative projects.
Budget Requirements: the costs to everything i will be using for my web-serial will be portrayed below:
Cameras - I will be using a camera no much more than £100-£300 . I have to purchase one camera as im using a single camera to shoot my web-serial. However in this situation i will be able to access a camera for free from college
Lights and microphone - if i were to hire the cost would be £500 per day to hire a camera man who would sometimes bring their equipment and sometimes not. In this case i wouldn't need to hire anyone because i will be shooting my web-serial myself.
Editing Suites - These suits can cost £500 per day/hour but in this case i will be using the editing suite that is provided in college which also has the specific resoureces needed in completing my task.

Talent - the talent will cost £500-700, however i will be using my colleagues as its a short film and i have people around with associated talent at my disposal to use and they won't ask for any pay.

Crew - In order to hire a crew for a web series would usually cost more £50and up. for my webseries i will only utilise a minimal amount of people.

Facility hire - hiring an edit suit to have videos edited will cost around £550 per day. In this case i will be using my colllege editing suit for free (mac room) where again i have all the needed resoures to edit my short film.
Time - Time and scheduling is everything in the media world. It's specifically important because you have deadlines to meet as if you don't meet the certain deadlines you would have to spend more money, For an extension or find yourself in the job center the next day as meeting dealines is key.
The most time i will be able to film  will be on my weekends as i am a student with other courses so management is key. props and costumes and stuff will all be funded from person funds. i would also have to book on time so i dont miss out on time slots for something like the studio/green screen room.

Materials - I would have to aquire clearance, in which is the paying for copyrighted materials to used at my disposal e.g music tracks, sounds and expressions.
copyright is a very important law in the world of media as copy right laws prevent people from stealing your hard work so basically you are given ownership over t things you created. For example if it was a painting, a photograph, a poem or a novel, music video, e-portfolio, webisode if you created it, you own it (belongs to you) and it’s the copyright law itself that assures that ownership hence it means people will need to ask for permission to use you work when the copy right laws have been enforced.
to be honest this is essential for my shortfilm as it makes sure that no one can steal my uniqueness and creativeness. if someone does while the copy right law has been enforced that person would have to pay for copyright hence they could go jail or be fined a lot of $$$.
the cost of copy right law is=$114 in pounds= £75.28 or even more (depending).

Crew and personnel - I  will have to gather everyone who is participating availability so that nothing overlaps and effects their personal time and studying time also  because of the different scene locations and times that we would be going i would need to know who is avaliable
what is needed:
  • A camera man/women who will be in charge of the camera and filming
  • A editor who will edit and put shot in order from the camera in to a story
  •  A sound engineer who will be in charge of the sound
  • Director who will direct the whole plot and i will be the producer at the same time
Location- The majority of our shots will be filmed in a local area, so around Sidcup/Kent and we ill need a permit from the Kent council in order to film in particular places. The BBFC  would regulate my short film as it will be seen by wide audiences so it will have to be suitable for it specific audience which is teen youth so it cant be to violent or show scence that might trigger offence in the eyes of audiences..
Facilities - Production Equipment: equipment such as cameras, lights and other things can be booked for free form the college.
Post-production equipment: edit suite can be booked for £550 a day and this suites that will contain macs which will run the software Final cut x which is the software that will be used to edit our shots into an edl (edit decsion list) it will also allow me to arrange the good shots from the bad ones. I will be using the editing suites in school as they have free access.

  1. Lacking specific identification of the audience however some evident in terms of size.
Your annotation contains some detailed explanation for WT M
The Draft Preproduction report also has some WT M but requires more exemplification from evidence to achive the M
